This discussion will focus on innovations that mitigate the incumbent negative climate impacts of agri-food systems. These range from innovations altering the carbon footprint of agricultural production, such as – low resource-use seed solutions, bio-based crop inputs, alternative feeds, green ammonia-based crop nutrition, to innovations limiting the climate impact of agri-food value chains, such as – sustainable packaging and innovations for waste minimization and sustainable disposal. The role of standards in enabling the mitigation ecosystem is also critical, particularly given the diversity of agro-ecological zones, production systems and, the large number of small-scale producers. Key perspectives to be covered include: the barriers encountered by these innovations, the key technology advancement enabling them, how their climate impact can be effectively measured and these measurements standardized, their scalability potential, examples of where they’ve successfully implemented and if there are any broader applicable learnings.
